FAREWELL TO MRS.  MCLEAN
Friday, Jan. 30 was the last day at Haisley for our beloved Media Specialist, Kim McLean.  The students gathered in front of the Media Center at the end of the day (all 408!) to clap her out!  Mrs. McLean has taken a new job at Clague Middle School. We congratulate her on her new position there. Those middle school students are so fortunate to have such a dedicated and talented media specialist! Mrs. Marcia Boik has taken her place through the end of the school year. Mrs. Boik is a certified teacher and has taken off running here at Haisley.  Please help us welcome her to Haisley!

Please take a few minutes to complete the survey. Once collected, results will be shared with the entire community.

Haisley Yearbooks!
Yearbook order forms will be going out to families in early March with a deadline on orders of April 1st. We wanted families to know that this year there will be a cost associated with the orders. The cost will depend on a few factors: total number of orders, ads that are purchased by businesses and families, and printing costs. The hope is that the cost for each student will be between $8-$9.
Have you taken pictures at Haisley events or in your child’s classroom? If so, please forward them to the yearbook team at haisleyyearbook@gmail.com

Are you a business or family and have interest in ad space?  Here’s your chance to get some great publicity! Please contact the yearbook team at haisleyyearbook@gmail.com.

Ad options include:

1/8 page: $25 (business card size)

¼    page: $50

½ page: $75
Full page: $150

HAISLEY PLAYERS DESIGN CONTEST WINNER

The Haisley Players just announced the winner of the Schoolhouse Rock LIVE! Jr. design contest. It was a very tough a decision. There were 17 creative and amazing entries this year! The winning design was by Ava Prude from Ms. Harris' 4th grade class. Ava's design will be used on the T-shirts, posters, and program covers for this year’s production. She will receive a free T-shirt once they are printed. Congratulations, Ava!

The Haisley Players were very happy with ALL of the contest entries. They would like to thank everyone who entered. Great work everyone!!
Borrowed Clothes from the Office
If your child has borrowed clothes, (pants, sock, or what have you), from the office please be sure to clean them and return them as soon as possible.  Now that the cold wet weather is here you would be amazed at the number of clothes we hand out everyday.  If we do not get the  clothes we lend out back, it means either a child must sit in cold, wet clothes or, a call home needs to be placed.  Please try to remember to clean and return the clothes back to the office.  We can always use sweet pants and socks if you have any that you are no longer using!

To submit an item to the weekly Haisley eBlast, please email it to Melissa Cunningham at maocunningham@gmail.com. You can also find school news on the Haisley website or by following the Haisley School Blog. For PTO news, follow the Haisley PTO Blog or like us on Facebook.

Haisley Heritage Festival

Haisley Heritage Festival
Thursday, January 31, 2013

Your Help is Needed!

Parents and other members of the Haisley community are needed to make Heritage Festival a success!  Please contribute by operating an activity table or a food table to share a piece of your culture or another with which you are familiar, perhaps from your travels.

Ideas for activity tables include:
  • storytelling
  • henna painting
  • origami and other paper crafts
  • table games
  • mask making
  • weaving
  • and much much more!
The activity should be easy to learn and do in about 10 minutes.
Food tables have hors d'ouerves, desserts (or other type of "finger food") that represent a culture.  Ideas for food tables include:
  • grape leaves
  • yakitori
  • potstickers/dumplings
  • fritters
  • spring rolls
  • latkes
  • croquette
Please avoid foods that contain nuts or that are cooked in nut oils.
Volunteers will also be encouraged to decorate their tables to reflect the culture represented by the activity or food item(s).

Volunteers are also needed for set-up and clean-up before and after the event.  Please contact Elana Levine, go to the Heritage Festival Website, or look for backpack mail during the week of January 7.
