Willy Wonka Kids

Who can take a sunrise, sprinkle it with dew, cover it in chocolate and a miracle or two? Why, the Candy Man can, of course! We are excited to announce that Haisley is going to produce a musical written especially for elementary schools, WILLY WONKA Kids, based on the book, “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” by Roald Dahl. Performances will be May 2^nd and 3^rd, 2013.

AUDITIONS for fourth and fifth graders to play the featured roles begin December 10^th both during and after school. Students must fill out an audition information form, conflict calendar and have permission from their parent/guardian. Students wanting to audition should sign up for a time slot on the stage during lunch.

All first through fifth graders who want to be involved in the musical either on stage in supporting roles or off stage helping in other ways, must also get permission but need not audition.

PARENTS, we would love to satisfy your desire to work behind the stage in various roles, too!

Girls on the Run: Volunteers Needed

Girls on the Run: Volunteers Needed!!  

We would like to offer Girls on the Run at Haisley the Spring 2013 and are seeking parents and/or teachers who are willing to volunteer their time to make a difference in the lives of girls in their community.

What is Girls on the Run?

Girls on the Run is an innovative, non-profit after school program that uses running to help prepare girls for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living. Their character-building program focuses on building self-esteem, confidence and improving physical and emotional health. Over the course of a 10-week season volunteer coaches teach life-skills lesson such as handling bullies, dealing with body image and the media, making healthy decisions and contributing to the community. The program culminates in a non-competitive 5k event which gives the girls a chance to shine and an overwhelming sense of accomplishment.

All shapes, sizes and abilities are celebrated and welcome! 

Without volunteers we will not be able to run the Girls on the Run program at Haisley. All volunteers will be provided with training and lots of great perks including free or discounted registration for their daughters. If you are interested please email sarah@girlsontherunsemi.org to learn more.

We have a lot of great items to bid on and all proceeds directly benefit the children at Haisley.  Donors include Ann Arbor Music Center, Dancers Edge, Grange, Detroit Lion, Tigers and Red Wings, & Goldfish Swim School among many others!

The annual Haisley Halloween costume parade is tomorrow, October 31, at 2:30, rain or shine!  

Please check your child's backpack mail for classroom-specific information about the day's schedule.  

Reminders:  

No gory or super-scary costumes, no weapons!  

Please remember gym shoes if your child has PE on Wednesday!

We need your help this Saturday!

Great News!  Haisley has won a matching grant from ReLeaf Michigan. The program will provide 5 new trees for the Haisley School yard. Now for the work... ReLeaf assigned Haisley to their Fall planting schedule. That means we need to act quickly and beat the frost. We need 10-15 volunteers to dig the holes this weekend. We're a few shovels shy of our goal.  Got a friend? Bring'em. The more folks we get the faster we finish.

WHEN: Saturday October 20th (this weekend!) 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM - RAIN OR SHINE

* don't worry - U of M doesn't kick-off till 3:30

WHAT: DIGGING....no experience necessary. We have 5/36"x24" holes to dig so we're looking for 10-15 folks (2-3 per hole)

WHERE: Haisley....along the sidewalk dividing the upper and lower El playgrounds

BYOS: Bring you own Shovel....we'll have a few extras, but it'll work best if each digger brings their own so that we can dig simultaneously.

What about kids? This is most definitely a grown-up activity. Kids are MORE THAN WELCOME to come out - in fact we encourage it, but they will need to be playing on the playground, not digging.
